• Applicants require an approved Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification, as stipulated in the Minimum Requirements for Teacher Education Qualifications (MRTEQ)
• Consideration may also be given to holders of a 360-credit Diploma in scarce fields identified by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)
• Applicants must have sufficient disciplinary content knowledge in their teaching specialisation: a minimum of 24 credits at NQF Level 6 for Senior Phase teaching subjects, or a minimum of 48 credits (with at least 24 credits at NQF Level 7) for FET teaching subjects
• Three mandatory competencies apply: competency in the Language of Learning and Teaching (English), which must be demonstrated or developed during the PGCE
• Information and Communication Technology competency (a prior NQF Level 5 qualification obtained within the last 3 years, or a competency test pass)
• evidence of study of an additional South African official language or Sign Language (excluding Afrikaans), or a competency assessment pass

Postgraduate Certificate in Education
