Remember that in Sv1TOMPv2l, the infinitive always goes to the end. Only a ‘nie’ can follow the infinitive. (Sv1TOMPv2IN)

1. The om and the te may be together or separated:
Ek hou daarvan om te sing.
Ek hou daarvan om in die stortbad te sing.
2. We always need an om and te + verb with the following exceptions:
a. Behoort, hoef nie en hoef net:
(behoort … te verb) (hoef nie … te verb nie) (hoef net … te verb)
Jy behoort jou huiswerk te doen.
Jy behoort jou huiswerk te gedoen het.
(past tense)
Jy hoef nie vir die toets te leer nie.
Jy hoef nie vir die toets te geleer het nie.
(past tense)
Jy hoef net vir toestemming te vra.
Jy hoef net vir toestemming te gevra het.
(past tense)
b. After the voorsetsel deur:
Deur vinnig te ry, veroorsaak ons ongelukke.
Deur vinnig te gery het, het ons ongelukke veroorsaak. (past tense)

Marie blyk die werk te verstaan.

HOW ‘DIE INFINITIEF’ IS TESTED
1. They usually give you a regular sentence and then put in words such as probeer (try), hou daarvan (like), is besig (am busy):
a. Find the verb and put the te before it.
b. Put the om just after the probeer, hou daarvan or is besig.
c. The te + verb always goes to the end of the sentence.
Ek doen my huiswerk by my lessenaar. (I do … )
Ek probeer om my huiswerk by my lessenaar te doen. (I try to do … )
Ek hou daarvan om my huiswerk by my lessenaar te doen. (I like to do … )
Ek is besig om my huiswerk by my lessenaar te doen. (I am busy to do (busy doing) )
